Oil :”Self Titled” LP and CD 20th November 2026 Roxx Records. US Heavy Metal band.

As a Dark Angel fan, when their last album came out in 1992 when most thrash bands moved to rock. I was disgusted when they broke. Music was changing and only few modern bands were kicking the stage such as Fear Factory and Machine Head who came a few years later.

When I heard Ron Rinehart joined a band, I was delighted. I became very quick disappointed. Sure Oil was a nineties band (a year I will never like), besides Ron keeping his melodies on those new songs. He is easily recognizable. Yet I wasn’t convinced by this new musical change. First a band that call itself ‘christian’ loses its credibility to me. Music hasn’t got a religion.

While the lyrics are based on religion, this is just Metal album from that era to me. You like it or not, an album may speak to you for many reasons. So I was pissed back then and gave it a bad review. I know I used to be too much on the critics.

This is a good album in its entirety, it is just another musical direction taken by a good singer.

Have a taste:

Musicians love to get back emotionally to their past, yet I’m not sure this re release will have a good impact in the music industry today. Troubles between band members will most likely fill up the media with fighting threw messages and lawyers.

Each song has a different temper and sound, a few may reminding Pantera, others Lethal.. it’s your way to choose what it gets you in. The song “attack’ one of the bonus track gets back to Ron’s power in Dark Angel. Wasn’t included back then sadly..

Influences are varied, it is cool to rediscover this album after so many years. For those who didn’t have the chance to buy it now you can add it to your collection.

Oil will certainly won’t go back on the scene while it’s old members are still playing to get back on stage.

To be continued, a must-have for all the fans 99/100.
