Cruzados : “She’s Automatic” CD & Digital 28th January 2022 Deko Entertainment. UK Rock ‘n Roll band.

Cruzados sound like a band having a good time on this offering, and the first track, ‘Tilt a Whirl’, puts me in mind of a summer drive with the soft top down, cruising with a few friends.

There is a cool southern rock influence on ‘Across this Ghost Town’ and the Texas groove of ‘Son of the Blues’, probably my favorite track on the album, is a song you have to listen to at good volume. Cruzados is a band working well within their considerable capabilities, and the lovely duet between harmonica and lead guitar on the interesting ‘Rock that Boat’ is a good example, a song with a great swing to it.

They vary the pace with the up-tempo work out of ‘Wing and a Prayer’ and the bar-room ballad ‘Sad Sadie’ but personally I’d love to hear those guitarists cut loose a little more. Cruzados may have been around for a while, but they continue to write good original material. So there’s more than enough here to suggest that they still have plenty to offer, just the sort of band to go see live with a few cold beers for company, and when I do, I can ask them what the hell ’54 Knockouts’ is about.
