Speed Limit: “The Broken Record” CD 26th April 2024 NRT Records. Austrian Heavy Metal band.
The Broken Record: Chorus Sound Tapes 1990, is the complete name for this release. Originally recorded in 1990 at the Chorus Sound Studios in Vienna. It was intended as the group’s second studio album. Unfortunately, a release did not materialize at that time. While they released an EP in 1988, after the first album back in 1986, the second one never saw the light and we all know the one in 1992.
Just before the release of this album in 1990, they had a guitarist change. They played numerous live shows and gained European recognition in the Heavy Metal world playing with famous names such as UDO, and Chroming Rose… The release kept on being delayed until it all fell on the shelves for decades. The singer left the band, and all this fame suddenly started to get into pieces. Few songs appeared on the 1992 and 2010 albums.
The band found replacements and so like many bands, the evolution began with leaving behind never-released songs they wanted the world to know about. Yet with the music business changing in what the music style would become in the nineties, in 1994, the band disbanded.
Have a bite:
The band reunited in 2008 to the surprise of all the fans. Alongside bassist Chris Pawlak and guitarists Chris Angerer and Joe Eder, vocalist Steven Hogger was also back on board. Andy Rethmeier didn’t participate and was replaced by Wolf Krug.
In 2010 they got a new album on Pure Rock Records, and the enthusiasm from both the fans and the Metal community put them on top. Leading Karthago, a sub-label of Pure Steel Records, re-released the first two albums. Extensive live tours with bands such as Pink Cream 69, Pretty Maids, Bonfire, Dynamite, and Shakra kept the band’s legacy alive. Yet once again the lineup was hit with two members’ departures. A strong will got them new members until they finally released another album to 2017making sure the fans wouldn’t be disappointed. A year later another member left and the band’s drummer Hannes Vordermeyer took over the vocal duties.
The band kept on playing live shows and secured another deal with NRT Records. Since then Speed Limit has been hard at work to keep the music alive and well around the globe.
Today “The Broken Record” is reviving the history and evolution of the band with their musical journey. Acoustic and unknown work to dig into the past and never heard before material. Twelve songs with two covers at the end of the album.
A must-have for any Metal fans 100/100.
