AlphaState : “The Grind” CD & Digital April 3rd 2018 Sliptrick Records. Greece Heavy / Thrash Metal band. Created in 2013 the band after getting the right line up made an album “Out Of The Black” in 2015, “The Grind” is the new album out now and it is a surprise. The musicians manage to get the influences from eighties Thrash Metal to the Heaviest side of Metal.  The logo is well worked and makes it a complex idea of what the band can be. With straight line mathematical design, it gives a hint of what to expect.

Musically it is hard to describe, as they certainly searched for the perfect sound and it surely is a great album. I listened to it several times and if I like it , I still have that strange feeling. It is obvious the band is fan of Nevermore and sometimes a particular vocal lines reminds the great singer Warrel Dane ‘s melodies.

The idea of their composition is to have great Heavy vocals with a well produced sound that is to me a bit too much. While I can ear the influences the album is joining the mainstream ones from Metallica “The snake” , Testament “Souls Of Black”, Forbidden “Omega Conspiracy”…well you got it the Nineties sound!

This is what makes this album too much worked on the mixing side and gives me that strange feeling when listening to it. The feel that people stopped them from pushing the power to their compositions. Fortunately you can watch them live and appreciate the full potential of their efforts.

The lyrics are a bit dark and the cover reflects this pretty well. Songs like “Behind the Dark”, “Trapped”, Theater of lies”… all great songs with messages and powerful solos as rhythms that will be loved by Thrashers as new Metalheads.

Here is a video to give you an idea :

For sure it speaks to everyone and has its brilliant songs that capture the listeners to the end and make you want to play it again. You can even hear bits of Twisted Sister, Ozzy Osbourne touches here and there. Those musicians know how to play and compose great songs inspired by decades of Metal and that what makes this album so special.

Guest musician from Firewind Bob Katsonis brings that professional touch to it. AlphaState is an awesome album to own and to dig as a musician and as a Metal fan. I would also compare them somehow to band like Seventh Calling and you will probably find other influences. A great album to own 99/100.
